Will be | fourth residency
Will Be, the final performance of Playing Memories’ fourth artistic residency, will premiere to the public on Tuesday, March 25, at the Politeatro in Milan, and then perform before an international audience on Friday, March 28, at the Auditorium of Colegio Salesianos de Atocha in Madrid.
“Will Be” is not only the title of the work: it is the supporting meaning of a story that sees a boy,Will, struggling for his dream: to be recognized in a country that continues to consider him a foreigner, despite the fact that he was born and raised there.
Will only knows how to express himself through music. With his songs he would like to transform reality and overcome the barriers of prejudice. The street is his daily gym, the place where he spends most of his time and where he has learned that life can be very hard and that people can be ruthless with those who are considered to be of different blood.
But “will” in English also means “will,” and Will is ready for anything. To defend his dream, he has built an imaginary fortress made of music, where the heroes are those singer-songwriters who have always accompanied him. Their words have given him the weapons to face hostilities, fueling, day after day, his desire to make his voice known to the world. His songs tell all this.
But the line between dream and reality is thin, and the question remains: Will it be? Will it really be?
In the multidisciplinary performance, musical reinterpretations of songs by Lucio Dalla, Mirkoeilcane, Willie Peyote, Caparezza and unreleased songs by singer-songwriter Silvio Padovani, aka Bohris – the creator and leader of the performance, a student of the Academic Biennium II level in Music Production at Saint Louis – are combined with dance, acting and visual art. The result is an unprecedented tale that brings to the stage the complex themes of racism and prejudice through the “lightness” of art.
